Christmas came and went

Christmas day was pretty chill this year, compared to last. Last Christmas I hardly even remember celebrating because I was in so much pain. But this time, I’m thankful that I was up and about and enjoying the evening with my girl. I had a feeling she would like the movie “Polar Express” so I hit Play on Netflix. At first she said she wasn’t gonna watch because she said it looked scary (the first few minutes are kinda dreary). But whaddya know, she ended up watching the entire movie and really enjoying it. We had a nice little evening! 🥰🎄

On Children by Kahlil Gibran “The Prophet”

Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

From The Prophet (Knopf, 1923).

Allergic to mascara

After being in denial for some time now, I’ve finally come to accept that I am allergic to mascara. Maybe when I was younger I wasn’t, or maybe it was too minor to notice. But now that I’m older, it’s definitely becoming more apparent that whenever I apply a full coat of mascara, my eyes start getting red and irritated. Bloodshot even. The next morning I wake up with redness and discharge from both eyes—almost like conjunctivitis but not quite as severe. This minor infection then usually lasts 2 to 3 days (with the help of medicated eyedrops).

I think in the past years I’ve been able to get away with it because I normally apply mascara just on the very tips of my lashes. But recently I’ve been wanting more volume so I’ve been applying from root to tip. Well, and that’s how I came face to face with the realization that I’m allergic. It didn’t matter if it was a brand new tube. Didn’t matter the brand. I just knew that waterproof kinds really irritated my eyes so I stayed away from them.

So now I’m on the hunt for an alternative. Luckily, some few years ago I bought a hot eyelash curling wand by Panasonic. It works well, but I have to wait for it to warm up and it can be a tedious process. What I like best about it is that I don’t get the midway crimp that I normally do using a traditional curler, and the curl itself lasts longer throughout the day. I’ve read from some online sources that Vaseline is actually a good alternative to mascara so I’ll be giving this combo a try. Wish me luck!
